MALTA

Profumo di rosmarino, mirto e timo, fiori multicolori fra cui prevale il giallo, fichi d’india, spiagge  che si tuffano in un mare che va dal turchese al blu cobalto. Malta  è l’isola ideale per chi cerca un clima mite e primaverile tutto l’anno, baie con l’acqua cristallina in cui fare immersioni, relax, ottimo cibo,  movida a St. Julian, e  settemila anni di cultura e storia. Offre tutto il divertimento possibile ai giovani, ma accoglie a braccia aperte anche gli over 60. Una destinazione ideale per tutti, insomma
Il best del Mediterraneo è in quest’isola, anzi piccolo arcipelago visto che oltre all’isola della Valletta ha altri due  microparadisi naturali come Gozo e Comino raggiungibili con traghetti e barche private e gli scogliotti  di Filfola, di Filfoletta e di Cominotto, che ha una splendida bellissima laguna blu, meta ambita dai subacquei e dagli amanti della natura. Malta è anche un eden per i golfisti che a questa latitudine  ( a 90 km dalla Sicilia e a 300 km dall’Africa) possono giocare tutto l’anno e l’offerta dei green è all’altezza delle aspettative anche dei golfisti più esigenti e ha un pregio quasi unico: anche in pieno agosto quando i turisti arrivano a frotte, non c’è mai traffico caotico lungo le strade o code agli incroci. Il servizio degli autobus è talmente funzionale ed efficiente che dovrebbe essere preso ad esempio da altre nazioni europee.

L’ideale è noleggiare uno scooter e andare alla scoperta dei tesori artistici e archeologici dell’isola, oppure scegliere una baia o una caletta punteggiata da cespugli in cui tuffarsi nelle acque cristalline. E’ così che si può scorpire la grotta in cui, secondo la leggenda omerica, Calipso tenne legato a sè per sette anni l’errabondo Ulisse. La sera non c’è che l’imbarazzo della scelta fra le feste e gli eventi che animano tutte le stagioni maltesi, ovviamente dopo una cena da gourmet e a prezzi decisamente accessibili in uno dei molteplici ristorantini dove il turista viene coccolato come un principe. La cucina maltese è un viaggio nei sapori antichi con alcuni must, vera delizia per il palato: la “ftira”,  un pane buonissimo farcito di tonno, pomodoro, olive e sottaceti; i “pastizzi”, piccoli fagottini di pasta sfoglia ripieni di ricotta e purè di piselli, il coniglio stufato con le olive e il polipo ripieno. Il tutto innaffiato da una buonissima birra locale, la Cisk, oppure da una bevanda analcolica locale, la Kinnie.   E per digerire, un bicchierino di liquore di fichi d’india, il Bajtra in cui si sentono tutti i sapori dell’isola.

Per un pranzetto interamente a base di pesce freschissimo poi vale la pena di fare una passeggiata fino ai ristorantini affacciati sul porto, brulicante di allegre barchette colorate e decorate con l’occhio di Osiride (la tradizione risale ai Fenici).

In questo fazzoletto di terra, la storia la si respira nell’aria e la si vede sulle facciate di monumenti e palazzi che si affacciano su intricate viuzze lastricate in cui, con un po’ di fantasia si possono sentira ancora risuonare gli zoccoli di cavalli dei Cavalieri di Malta la cui impronta è ovunque.

 

Ripercorrere la storia dell’isola significa partire dal complesso dei templi di Ggantija, nei pressi di Xaghra a Gozo,  uno dei più straordinari dell’era neolitica e soffermarsi poi, magari al tramonto con un panorama mozzafiato  quando il mare si colora di rosa prima di sprofondare nel blu della notte, davanti ai templi megalitici di Hagar Quim e Mnajdra risalenti al 3200 a.C e dichiarati Patrimonio Unesco. Ammirare Malta significa anche andare in visibilio davanti alla magnificenza della Cattedrale di San Giovanni il cui impatto visivo toglie il fiato: pareti di marmo scolpito con una fittissima trama di putti e tralci vegetali  dorati conducono il turista davanti alla strabiliante Decollazione di San Giovanni Battista, dipinta  e firmata da Caravaggio quando fuggitivo trovò rifugio sull’isola.
Malta è un grande libro storia che offre molte emozioni fra cui quella particolare della visita all’Ipogeo di Hal Saflieni, un complesso sotterraneo che nel passato ospitava camere sepolcrali.
E se volete visitare l’antica città di Victoria, una minuscola medina in cui si respira mito e leggenda fusi insieme, oppure avete voglia di un tuffo sulla bellissima spiaaggia di San Blas Bay, c’è un efficiente servizio navetta giornaliero che vi porta a destinazione. Dwejra point è invece uno dei punti per le immersioni più spettacolari, in acque profonde, fra grotte e archi.

Malta : a holiday between history, art and cobalt blue sea
Scent of rosemary, thyme and myrtle , multi-colored flowers which prevails among the yellow , prickly pears , white beaches that plunge into a sea that goes from turquoise to cobalt blue. Malta is an ideal island for those seeking a mild climate throughout the year and spring , bays with crystal clear water when diving, relaxation , great food, night life in St. Julian , and seven thousand years of culture and history. It offers all the fun possible for young people, but welcomes with open arms even those over 60 . An ideal destination for everyone.
The best of the Mediterranean is the island, rather than seeing that small archipelago island of Valletta has two other micro natural paradises like Gozo and Comino reached by ferries and private boats and rocks of Filfola of Filfoletta and Cominotto , which a stunning beautiful blue lagoon, a popular destination for scuba divers and nature lovers .
Malta is also a paradise for golfers  that, at this latitude ( 90 km from Sicily and 300 km from Africa) can play all year round and offering green live up to the expectations of even the most demanding golfers and a quality almost unique : even in August when tourists arrive in droves , there’s never chaotic traffic queues along the roads or at intersections. The bus service is so functional and efficient , which should be taken as an example for other European nations.

The ideal is to rent a scooter and explore the artistic and archaeological treasures of the island, or choose a bay or cove dotted with bushes to dive into the crystal clear waters . It ‘s so that you can  discover the cave where , according to the Homeric legend , Calypso held themselves bound to the wandering Odysseus for seven years . In the evening you will be spoiled for choice among the parties and events that animate all  Maltese season , of course, after a gourmet dinner and a very affordable price in one of the many restaurants where tourists are pampered like a prince. The Maltese cuisine is a journey through the flavors with some must , a true delight for the palate : the ” ftira ” , a delicious bread stuffed with tuna , tomato and olives  , the ” pastizzi ” , small bundles of puff pastry filled with ricotta and mashed peas , rabbit stew with olives and stuffed octopus .
